Race Past The First Curve
by Kais Blah.
The noise around the word "success.
Who does not nowadays refute the word “success?”
Our proud indifference to the word “success” is the result of an aggressive overexposure to the phenomenon of success—whatever success means.
Nowadays, no one can pursue a journey towards a content life without being overwhelmed by thousands of stories on every topic we could ever think of.
From TV ads to social media posts, every piece of information we get is intended to show us a better, happier, and more successful life. Success, success, success. A word that has become so banal that it leaves us indifferent to the essentials of life.
You hear claims from rich people who share their secret 10 steps to getting rich, and from the minimalists who claim happiness is in having less or just enough. You hear claims from the scientist and the spiritual, from the intellect, from the eccentric artist, and from everyone and anybody.
Success, success, success. We are at the center of a noisy, crowded place, searching for some inner peace.
There used to be a time when achievements were the result of a self-enduring process with little influence from others, except maybe from nature itself. All successful stories come from self-retreat and exploration until success, unique to the person, is defined.
The question is how to cross past all this noise and find truly what fulfills our soul and mind—what makes us content. After all, that’s what life is all about: to live life to the fullest.
Sometimes we hear about the entrepreneur who succeeded in the pizza business, where Italian pizza shops are everywhere in town. The person who succeeded as a teacher when teaching is not profitable. A successful basketball player who made it to the professional league not by his talent but by his ethics of work, although the game is played by millions of more talented people. There is always someone who does something against the odds.
Whoever crosses the first curve and reaches as fast as she can to a safe place will have a better chance to attain her goal. In the end, it is not what others are telling us how it is at miles through this journey, but what we will see by ourselves when we reach there.
Listen to nothing but your own voice and ignore claims like: Success requires significant amounts of hard work, personal sacrifice, and meeting specific requirements. Success requires talent, money, and the right environment. Success is hard work. Success needs a strong passion and a sense of purpose in life. Success means finding meaning through spirituality and mystic divinities.
Whenever you hear those claims about what a successful life should or should not be, think that the only way to know is to try it out. And when you aim at always trying to recharge your willpower by embracing every possible opportunity without fear of failure, you will reach it and make your own story.
Inner peace is important as to what voice drives your journey. Be aware of your moments and drive the best version of yourself forward. For more on awareness and how it is an intelligence that can help you navigate any barrier or limitation on the way—mostly what others say about success.
